The Yellow Medallion Taxicabs have become iconic to New York City. There are currently over 13,000 licensed taxicabs and over 50,000 taxicab drivers providing transportation for passengers in all five boroughs via street hails. When I stand on the side of the street trying to find an available Taxi, I’ve always been thinking about, How many people like me are going to hail a cab? Are they going to Midtown or Uptown? Where are most taxis hailed in New York City?
When I saw the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) dataset, immediately, I came up with the idea to make this dashboard, deciding to look at yellow taxi trips by open data. Beyond my question above, the app can answer much more: Are there any trends associated with times or locations? Where are the most pick-up/drop-off spots? What about taxi trips during a specific time slot?

- Description: The data were collected and provided to the TLC by technology providers authorized under the Taxicab & Livery Passenger Enhancement Programs (TPEP/LPEP). The yellow taxi trip records include fields capturing pick-up and drop-off dates/times, pick-up and drop-off locations, trip distances, itemized fares, rate types, payment types, and driver-reported passenger counts.
